Course Description.

DTS Equip is an intensely effective 6-week leadership development course. It provides a resource-rich environment where leaders and team members are equipped in character, skills, and spirit. But it doesn’t stop there. The goal is to enable people to pass this on through their own lives, allowing other students, staff, and programs worldwide to develop according to their individual and corporate callings.  

Our theme scriptures 2 Time 2:2 says it all: we equip Equippers. 

“And what you have heard from me through many witnesses, entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.”

DTS Equip is not limited to DTS staff or new staff. Your gift and ability to lead and disciple is NOT limited by your role.  Equip might be designed around a DTS-style environment, but it’s effective for people leading in any context. You can utilize the lessons and skills learned wherever you go, and the more experience you have, the deeper it goes.

  DTS in 1995 in Kona launched me into the nations, YWAM, and discipleship. Seeing people the way God sees them, years into the future, compels me to work alongside them in their journey. Discipleship, leadership development, and training-the-trainers is my passion. Married with three kids, we do life as missions, and missions as life. Loving it!

  Chad Zimmerman

  Equip Leader

  Chad has been with YWAM since doing his DTS in Newcastle, Australia in 2005. Chad has been privileged to be a staff/student with YWAM on 4 continents while serving multiple campuses and graduating with an AA in Christian Ministries through the University of the Nations. With a focus on training, he has staffed 11 DTSs, 2 SOMDs, and 7 Equip schools. In recent years his primary focus has been to serve school leaders and staff by equipping them through training and mentoring. In late 2021, after 5 years of working with the training team at YWAM Kona, he moved to the Lakeside Montana campus. Chad also serves as a member of the International DTS Centre. Life Passion: Bacon... and other things.

  I did my DTS at YWAM Denver in 2010 which propelled me into missions. I spent 9 years on staff with YWAM Maui where I served in many capacities including the DTS Director and the campus leadership team. My family and I moved to YWAM Montana in the summer of 2021 to work with DTS Equip. I count it a privilege to train and work with DTS leaders and see them serving and discipling others.

The DTS equip was awesome. Two of my favorite topics were ‘servant leadership’ and ‘valuing the individual’. We also talked about how to disciple students from difficult backgrounds. It made me think about my own family upbringing as well as how this would help me reach into the lives of others.
The worship was great and real unity was there. Each day I found that our leaders/we were sensitive to the Holy Spirit and were open to what he was doing in our lives. We were served in ways that we never expected. The leaders, they really helped to build our confidence because of how we were valued.
Right now I am leading a DTS and the Equip helped me to see people through God’s eyes. I’m seeing the inner person and it has helped me to cooperate with what he is doing with each one of the students. I now see the purpose and destiny that God created them for. I now know how to serve and really just be who I am. I’m comfortable just hanging out and being with the students. Not out of a position, but out of a desire to just love people.
Being a missionary out on the field you’re focused on the field. Now I can focus on the person that God is taking to the field.

My biggest takeaway from DTS Equip was a leadership mindset and skills, the importance of being a disciple first always, and servanthood. I think being a disciple first and “leading from your knees” is an incredible formula for leadership. I can not imagine staffing DTS without the knowledge and wisdom I gained from DTS Equip. What I learned during the six short weeks at DTS Equip would have taken me a lifetime of mistakes to learn on my own.

1: leadership, 2: perspective, 3: challenge. I chose these three because they were the first fruits of my thoughts when thinking on equip. Equip is a unique experience that will be different for everyone based upon what they bring to the class and what God has for them to discover! “It’s not all about me!” And “Zeal with out Wisdom is wreak less!” I loved equip because it challenged me to look past my self as a leader and all the ways I realized I needed to grow through my new awareness perspective. It started my journey through the lens of confidence in the authority and promises of the Holy Spirit and not my self!

“Much of what you teach is so applicable in University and various career paths”. “Equip and its teachings have specifically come into play and been applicable within such upper level university courses as leadership principles (300 level), principle of business management (300 level), managerial accounting (300 level), legal and ethical environment of business (300 level) and human resources management (400 level). Lectures on integrity, character, team dynamics, ethics, diversity and servant leadership are a few of the invaluable lessons picked up in Equip which are also taught and discussed at the University level.
